By the end of 2019 Garongkong port, South Sulawesi will be connected with cargo train. This was conveyed by Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi after a working visit to Port Garongkong, Friday, October 27, 2017, yesterday.

JAKARTA (infolog); “At least at the end of 2019, the wharf will be extended from 250 meters to 750 meters and will be linked to the train mode which in 2019 will build its 107-km construction,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday (28/10 / 2017) as quoted by Liputan6.com as saying.

Garongkong port in South Sulawesi province is ideal because it has a good sea depth and has a natural breakwater.

“The port of Garongkong has a good sea depth of 12 meters-16 meters and has a natural breakwater that is an island, therefore Garongkong Port is ideal,” said Budi.

He explained that the development of dock extension will be done with APBN budget or in cooperation with the scheme of Cooperation between Government and Business Entity (KPBU).

“We will use the APBN or Cooperation with the KPBU scheme in 3-4 months to prepare the tender for the development of the pier,” he continued.

In the future, Garongkong Port will also accommodate 5 cement factories for their logistics needs.

“I am assigning the Port Director to study so that Garongkong Port has enough capacity to transport coal to and from cement factories in South Sulawesi,” said Budi.

In addition, according to Budi, South Sulawesi’s potential to continue to grow. This is because the province has a good cement commodity.

“South Sulawesi is lucky to have a good location so that it can establish 5 cement factories and is expected to continue to maximize the existing potential,” he said. (ac)
