Number of goods transported by freight trains during 2017 increased. President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Edi Sukmoro explained in 2016 compared to 4 million tons of goods.

JAKARTA (infolog): “The issue of freight transport is 13 percent, from 2016 to 32 million tons to 36 million tons in 2017,” said Edi Sukmoro when met at the Jakarta Railway Center’s Jakarta Central Office, Tuesday (9/1/2018) as quoted by Tribunnews.com as saying.

Unfortunately even though the goods were transported, the newly transported barrels reached 91 percent set at 39.9 million tons.

Operation Director KAI Slamet Suseno Priyanto said 2018 KAI believes the use of freight trains can increase and meet the target.

According to Suseno, the demand for delivery of goods using Airport Railways has continued to rise for example for the transportation of coal in Palembang, South Sumatra, and containers in Java.

“For coal, Palembang again 1 trainset 60 carriages now so 64 carriages later we test 100 carriages, request of Surabaya container, Semarang, Jakarta also increased” said Slamet Suseno

KAI Director, Edi Sukmoro added, KAI will continue to support the government to further develop the use of freight trains to further reduce the density of vehicles on the road.

In addition the call for more use of the luggage cart also aims to maintain the texture of the highway so as not to be quickly damaged due to the burden of carrying too heavy goods.

“We are trying to help transport the freight from the highway to the railway so that the congestion can be reduced, the crash of the road is not quickly damaged, we will work hard for that,” said Slamet Suseno. (ac)
