PT Pelindo II continues to prepare the Cikarang Bekasi Laut Canal (CBL) inland waterway construction project as alternative logistics transportation by utilizing the river canal lane are expected to reduce logistics costs ranging from 20% to 25%.
JAKARTA (infolog): If the barge can enter CBL to the Cikarang industrial area, there are at least 80 to 100 containers transported for one way. Optimization of logistics transport will connect the off-the-road area of Tanjung Priok Port with the hinterland area. Pelindo II targets the CBL project to be completed in 2021.
PT Pelindo II Technical and Risk Management Director Dani Rusli Utama said the company prepared an initial investment for the Rp 3.2 trillion CBL project. It is estimated that it will cost Rp. 6 trillion, he told Kontan.co.id, Thursday (8/16) as quoted as saying.
At present, project progress is still in the licensing phase. Later, for the first phase, the canal transportation system will use existing canals built by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), namely Cikarang Bekasi Laut, Marunda, North Jakarta.
While in the second stage, Pelindo II plans to add a canal route from Tanjung Priok to Cikampek. This channel will connect the logistical current from Tanjung Priok to the Cibitung-Cikarang Industrial Estate in Bekasi and in Cikampek.
Indeed, CBL is expected to have direct connectivity with the Cikarang Industrial Estate. However, the management of the industrial area around the CBL dock is still under study. For the management of the industrial estate, Pelindo II is open to collaborate with third parties.
On the other hand, Pelindo II still has to take into account freight rates through the CBL line. This is so that the freight forwarding company from Cikarang to Tanjung Priok is interested in using the CBL line.
“It has to be cheaper than other modes of transportation so it can compete,” said Dani. (ac)
